My name’s Atticus. I’m 13, I love birds and I’m fighting to save them in the Northern Territory. But the heat keeps rising and the government’s not listening to kids like me.

I live on Larrakia Country in Darwin. I love birdwatching and drawing, and I’m lucky to be surrounded by incredible wildlife. But it’s hard to enjoy when the coastline’s covered in oil rigs and fossil fuel ships.

I care a lot about animals, especially birds, but climate change and wildlife extinction make me feel really anxious.

I helped fight for Binybara/Lee Point, a special place for birds and First Nations culture, but it feels like no one in power listens to kids like me.

We moved to Darwin for my health, but the heat is getting unbearable. What happens when it gets worse? Where will I go then?

I just want the Australian government to step up and do something real about climate change. I go to protests, I speak out, I make art – but it’s exhausting when adults in power ignore us.

They could fix this. So why won’t they?
